Trailer Training Courses

Since the 1st January 1997 the law changed about towing a trailer, caravan, horsebox, etc. If you want to do any serious towing after this date you now have to take a further B+E test to tow anything over the weight of 750 KG to acquire the correct entitlement on your license. If you tow a trailer without the correct entitlements your licence will be subject to endorsements of up to nine penalty points and fines of up to £2000.

Totteridge Driving School can provide the necessary trailer training required to pass the test which is conducted at specialised LGV Test Centres. The nearest venues are based at Yeading, London, Leighton Buzzard, Reading or Oxford. Other venues can be considered if necessary.

The test requires driving of a higher standard than the regular car test. The reversing exercise, emergency stop and hitching/de-hitching are assessed on the site of the test centre, the rest of the test on localised roads consisting of town, country and motorway routes.

At the end of the test on the hitching/de-hitching section you will be assessed on your knowledge of towing your trailer safely.



Our courses are 3 hours in duration and allow you the choice of using our vehicle or your own. You can also use your own trailer, caravan, horsebox etc. but we can provide one at no additional cost.

Courses cost £75 using your own vehicle and £120 using ours. You can pay online by clicking HERE. The B+E driving test fee is £115 or £148 for a Saturday test. We can book it on your behalf if required. Other courses can be arranged including groups of two or more people.
